Giovanni Maranghi

Born in Lastra a Signe (Florence) in 1955, Giovanni Maranghi’s career began in 1975 with his own exhibition in Bari. He graduated from “liceo artistico” (art high school) and enrolled in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Florence in 1974.

Maranghi’s art expresses the very mobility of life. He is obsessed with this idea of movement and his inherent awareness that the earth is a sphere in constant motion. To Maranghi, time and movement are the two sides of the same coin – one cannot do without the other.

Man’s life is bound to this same “roundness” and Maranghi’s characters reflect this journey and motion toward their destination – their dreams. With them, are animals, bicycles, cars, trains, and any other element useful to their movement or journey. Their rhythm is hectic and mechanical.

Maranghi’s pictorial language is accordingly characterized by a surprising brightness and dizziness. It in an instrument of awareness, an illumination of the human condition.
