Alessandro Busci

Alessandro Busci was born in Milan in 1971. In 1996 he received a degree in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic, submitting a thesis on art history written under the guidance of Flavio Caroli.

Since 1997 Busci has been part of the Atelier Mendini team creating architectural projects and interior design. The most famous and wide-reaching of these projects was a series for Swatch stores in Italy and abroad. Their team designed the stores as well as murals outside of Swatch stores all over Italy, including San Marino, Rome, Florence, and Verona.

Busci works within a poetic rhythm that is based on contradiction and exchange between classical and avant-garde, stability and motion. It is not coincide that Alessandro Busci has now entrusted a large part of his artistic endeavors to the regenerative and highly metaphorical qualities of rusted plate.

As a canvas, its alchemical transformation rivals pain and brush work alike. Although he uses other medium as well, white corroded iron is Busci’s favorite material to work with. Busci’s technique is “ferreous oxidation” produces images of everlasting drama and is addressing the intellect of current post-modernism.

Alessandro Busci lives and works in Milan.
